Tyler & Nast Fashion Feud
After the release of Tyler the Creators new album Call Me if You Get Lost, both fans and critics took notice of the diss track entitled Rise. This track outlines a fashion feud that has manifested between Tyler the Creator and rapper ASAP Nast. The “beef” started over their similar styles and interests in traditional menswear pieces like cardigans, sweater vests, suits and trench coats.
While Tyler’s style has evolved over the years from a skate influenced wardrobe to more refined preppy style, it is unclear whether Nast had anything to do with this change. No matter who started or reinvented the trend is irrelevant, what we can agree on is how much the style has proliferated in the recent years due to both artists influence. So we’re here to show you some pieces that match both their styles and align with the preppy boy/ street wear looks they curate.

No matter who started or reinvented the trend is irrelevant, what we can agree on is how much the style has proliferated in the recent years due to both artists influence. So we’re here to show you some pieces that match both their styles and align with the preppy boy/ street wear looks they curate.
One of the first pieces we found at the Costa Mesa store is this traditional long-sleeved striped Ralph Lauren Polo. This is a staple in both Tyler’s and Nast's closet, and both artists can be seen wearing various colors of Polos in multiple photos on Instagram and other socials. These Polos have seen many resurgences over fashion history, and the most recent was in the early 2000s when Polos were worn with popped collars and basketball shorts. Both artists dress their Polos up and down depending on the occasion, but one thing is for sure you can’t dress like either without a Polo.
For our next item, we have the infamous sweater vest. The sweater vest seems to be at the center of the fashion feud controversy. In 2018 Nast wore a leopard-print Comme des Garçons Homme Plus sweater vest from its Spring/Summer 2018 collection to a Converse One Star event in London. Two years later, Tyler was seen wearing a Golf (Tyler the Creators brand) sweater vest with a leopard print to the 2020 Brit Awards, which led Nast to make his initial accusations.
While there’s no denying the outfits are identical, the sweater vest has been around for decades and neither of them invented wearing it. Tyler later states on Twitter “a fella who I think has great style but keeps getting in his own way because of ego so he blames others when they get hand claps for something he’s passionate about. which is sweaters that all old french men wear and animal prints haha”. While we don’t have the OG leopard print vest we do have these two equally great options.
Another staple of the preppy style is khaki pants/bottoms. Both Tyler and Nast can be seen sporting khaki shorts and pants incorporated with their outfits. The khaki Dickies seem to be a reoccurring favorite of both artists, and we luckily happen to have some in stock at our Costa Mesa location.
If you are less of a pant person and more of a shorts person we have you covered with these adjustable Nike shorts. Either option will have you one step closer to looking like these artists.
Another brand Tyler and Nast are both known to stan for is La Coste. You can even see Tyler the Creator wearing a red La Coste button down sweater almost identical to this one on July 5th of this year. And of course as previously mentioned the sweater is paired with a perfectly creased pair of khakis. Find his full look here, as the following item was also include in his look.
We know both artists have no shortage of loafers. They can be seen styling them with long socks and shorts as well as sock-less with pants and every other way in between. Pair these loafers with any item above and you’ve pretty much a full Tyler the Creator or ASAP Nast look. And if you don’t have rapper money, that’s all good these loafers will only cost you nine dollars. Who says you need a million dollars to dress like your favorite rapper. Thrifty and fashionable.
While ASAP Nast may not be wearing Golf we do know it is one of Tyler’s favorite brands to show off, and rightfully so as they are his own creation and designs. Tyler can be seen wearing many of his pieces on his socials from shoes, to sweaters, and even eating his own ice-cream. There is no shortage of synergy between his music branding and clothing creation. These shoes vary slightly from his iconic low top styles but still showcase his signature bright colors and varsity style patchwork.
We’re not here to decide who wore it first or who wore it best, but we are hear to say their distinctive styles have had a major cultural impact. So whether your more into Tyler’s bright preppy skater look or ASAP Nast edgier preppy streetwear style we’ve got what you need at 2nd Street.
